Bingley Weekender brought some brilliant memories
Yorkshire has big hitter music festivals in the shape of Leeds Fest and Tramlines but for some the Bingley Weekender probably slips under the radar.

While, perhaps across the region, the event is modest, in terms of pull, it certainly isn’t with regards to its ambition. The proof of this was perfectly highlighted by this year’s headliners being Pixies, The Libertines and Rag’N’Bone Man. As an aside, you very much knew Pixies were playing given amount of t-shirts dedicated to the band being fashioned on site.

Each day, thousands headed to the Bradford and Bingley Rugby Club festival site to enjoy a packed programme of music across three stages. The two support performance areas provided a platform for aspiring artists while familiar names made appearances on the main stage.

Over the weekend, we saw Yorkshire faves Embrace and Shed Seven take to the main stage alongside Peter Hook and The Light, Sea Power and The Amazons among others. All played in wonderful sunshine which, of course, helps compliment proceedings.

From the campsite, the festival ground and the security staff, Bingley Weekender 2022 was a real friendly affair. Very welcoming with an underline feeling of community spirit. Emphasised by music icon Pete Doherty from the Libertines taking some time out to jam backstage with up-and-coming act Alfie Templman or even Rag’N’Bone Man popping into the clubhouse on-site for the afterparty on Friday evening. A lot of people were after selfies, as you can imagine.

Aside from the big names who performed, arguably, the most fun of a huge enjoyable weekend came each evening around 10pm when the party moved to that aforementioned clubhouse with an array of bands playing covers on the intimate stage inside.

If in 2023, you are looking to try a new festival then the hidden gem of the Bingley Weekender could well be the one for you. Hope to see you there!
