Despite dominating territory and possession in the second half, the Bees could not capitalise on that advantage and Ossett were able to convert their chances into points to pull away for a deserved win. When Ryan Wilson zipped down the right hand flank and cut back inside the final defender in the 47th minute for a converted score which pulled the Bees to within two points, Bees supporters in the crowd believed their side would now get a grip of the game as they were playing with the slope and the breeze.
However, it was not to be, as Ossett were able to block everything the visitors threw at them and also get back up the field to claim two scores from two of their few visits into the Bees half.
With former England Manager Geoff Cooke watching from the stand next to the clubhouse, the Bees were first on the scoreboard after 16 minutes. Although the home side appared to have a big pack, the Bees technique in the tight saw them driving the home side back and the drive to the line to the left of the posts which opened the scoring was a fair reflection of how the opening exchanges were going. However, the lead lasted all of three minutes as a speculative kick towards the Bees posts took a fortuitous bounce back over the covering defenders to land in the grateful arms of the onrushing Ossett centre who was able to dot down under the posts.
Jim Nicholas was held up over the Ossett line as the Bees pack drove the home forwards back, but then a 27th minute penalty further extended the home advantage. With three minutes to go to half time Ossett were over the line again as the home back line put together a move close to the line with the Bees defence scramvling to get into position. The 17 poins to 5 score line at half time seemed a fair reflection of how the game had played out, but a twelve point gap seemed to be not enough for the home side to feel comfortable.
Dom Walker slotted a 46th minute penalty and then wirthin a minute Ryan Wilson was on his bike down the right hand side and suddenly it was 17 15 with the Bees camped in the Ossett half. Despite any number of promising looking breaks from the Bees pack, and a number of pile ups within touching distance of the line, Ossett held firm. Then, suddenly the home side finally got a foothold in Bes territory and good handling along the backline saw the home side scoring out wide on the left.
From the ensuing kick off, The Bees were adjudged to be in front of the kicker, which gave Ossett the ball back on half way. The Bees then compounded this mistake with a couple of simple erros from the next possessions. The Bees had a penalty directly in front of the posts, but chose to kick to the corner for an attacking lineout. The lineout was turned over and an easy three points lost. Then, a shot at goal bounced off the post and into the Bees in goal area. In stead of dotting the ball down an resetting the game, for some reason the Bees decided to try and run the ball out, but as the ball came back into play it was knocked on and Ossett were gifted possession five metres from the line.
Ossett were awarded a penalty on their next visit to the Bees 22. The ball went wide to the left for a simple score and it was now 31 15 with the clock ticking down. A yellow card on 76 minutes saw Ossett reduced to 14, but the Bees could not batter their way over the line in the final exchanges.
