The. five point win lifts the Bees above Baildon into sixth spot in the table

There had been no little concern behind the scenes for the Bees coaching team as they prepared for this fixture knowing skipper Luke Spauls, number eight Jim Nicholas, and scrum-half Ben Hemsley were all out with injuries and there appeared to be few options available to shore up the side. However, Ali Macdonald pulled together a squad with only four or five players wearing the same numbered shirt as last time out, but a squad that nevertheless appeared to be better organised in defence and a step quicker with ball in hand.

As ever, when playing at Laund Hill, the former YMCA, there was a major force shaping the game as the wind blew down the length of the field and helped the home side pin the Bees back in their twenty two for the first fifteen minutes. The Bees could not break out and did not really muster antything which might be described as an attacking move in the first fifteen minutes. However, the defensive line held firm and one or two thumping tackles could be felt on the side line as Laund Hill players were knocked backwards. It was almost inevitable a score would come and it was only a three point reward for the home side despite their dominance of the opening exchanges.

It was not until 23 minutes had passed that the Bees put together any sort of attacking move, but as the ball was swept nicely from right to left, debutant Kris Gott was on the end of the move to dot down wide of the posts. The Bees were right back on the attack and within three minutes were on the score sheet as a speculative kick ahead was gathered by Josh Tenniswood who broke the first tackle and slipped a pass to his left to the onrushing Ryan Wilson who charged in under the posts.

Dom Walker slotted the conversion and the Bees seemed likely to pull away having been on top for a good ten minute period. Bees supporters on one touchline were frustrated by the referee seeming to credit the home rush defence with Olympic sprinting speed out of the blocks to disrupt the Bees attacks, but with Laund Hill landing a penalty, the half time score of 12 6 seemed a fair reflection of the game.

With the wind now definitely favouring the Bees, it seemed the visitors would use the breeze to pin the home side in the corner in front of the stand, but Laund Hill had other ideas and on 44 minutes, the home stand off set off on a solo run up the middle and no-one from the Bees was able to impede his progress to the line. With the extra points added it was 13 12 to the home side and the Bees now had their work cut out. The home scrum half was then given his marching orders as a high tackle made contact with the head of a Bees player, giving the referee no option but to follow the letter of the laws and remove him from the field of play. However, the loss of a player only served to galvanise the home side and a penalty and a try extended the lead to 21 12 as the hour mark came up.

With Luke Spauls absent, Alex Leadbeater had assumed hooking duties but was one of the Bees busiest attackers throughout. On 65 minutes his industry was rewarded as he burst out of a tackle to stretch over in the left-hand corner. As time wore on, the Bees were gradually gaining the upper hand and Leadbeater looked to be through for a second score only to be pulled up agonising close to the line. The Bees next broke left and as the final pass put a wide player through, the referee correctly pulled the Bees back for the forward pass. The Bees continued to grind their way downfield and with five minutes left on the watch finally regained the lead as a committee of Bees players bundled the ball over wide on the left, with Robson Moore credited with the score.

Dom Walker went near with the conversion from out wide. The referee shouted the game was in the final two minutes as we restarted the game and the Bees again had Laund Hill pinned back in the corner. The Bees were awarded a penalty and went for a kick to the corner. The move ate up vital seconds on the clock and another penalty further in field gave Walker the chance to seal the game. The penalty was good and Laund Hill only had time to restart the game and see Walker blast the ball out of play to finish the contest.
